JUDr. et PhDr.  Stanislav Balík

JUDr. et PhDr. Stanislav Balík (* 1956) completed his studies at the Charles Law Faculty in 1979 and in 1981 graduated also in the field of archival studies at the Philosophic Faculty, Charles University. The title, doctor of laws, was conferred on him in 1980 and the title, doctor of philosophy, three years later. He worked until 1989 as a company lawyer, and in 1990 he began to practice as an independent advocate. In 1994 he became an alternate member of the Czech Bar Association (CBA) Board of Directors, in 1999 its First Vice-President and in 1996 its President. In 2002–3 he represented Czech advocates in the Council of European Bar Associations. In 2003 he was awarded the Rand Silver Medal. Since 1996 he has taught at the Department of Legal History at the Faculty of Law, Western Bohemian University („Western Bohemian Law Faculty“). He has published extensively; he is, for example, the author or co-author of a number of textbooks and articles in scholarly journals. He also serves on the editorial board of the journals, Bulletin of Advocacy and Historical Horizon. On 26 May 2004 President Václav Klaus appointed him a Justice of the Czech Constitutional Court.
