Prof. JUDr. Jiří Malenovský (*1950) attended secondary school in Brno and in Dijon, France. He graduated from the Masaryk Law Faculty in 1974 and in 1975 received his doctorate in international law at the Charles Law Faculty. In 1974-90 he was an assistant and expert assistant of public international law at the Masaryk Law Faculty; in 1989 he became its Vice-Dean, and in 1990-92 was the Chair of its Department of International and European Law. In 1992 he became a Justice of the CSFR Constitutional Court. In 1993-2000 he was the Ministry of Foreign Affairs‘ representative, ambassador, and the Czech Republic‘s permanent representative at the Council of Europe, later its High Director of the Section of Law and Consular Affairs. On 4 April 2000 President Václav Havel appointed him a Justice of the Constitutional Court.

He became a docent of international law in 1990, and in 2001 a professor. He is a member of the French Society of International Law and Deputy Chairman of the Czech Section, Association of International Law.

In 1998-2000 he was a member of the Government‘s Legislative Council, and in 2000 he became a member of the Scientific Council of the Masaryk Law Faculty, and an arbitrator and member of the Czech National Group at the Permanent Arbitration Court.

 Currently he is a judge of the European Court of Justice.
