JUDr. Jiří Nykodým (*1945) studied law at the Charles Law Faculty from 1963 to 1968. In 1969 he passed his doctoral exams. In September, 1969 he became a judicial trainee at the Municipal Court in Prague. Then in December, 1969 he began work as an articling lawyer with the Prague Municipal Advocate’s Association. From 1972 he worked as an advocate in a legal advice bureau in Prague. In 1972 he joined the Education College of the Head Office for Czech Advocacy, in its Civil Law Section. In 1976 he was appointed a commissioner of exams for bar examinations, in the field of civil law. In 1990 he was elected to the Board of Directors of the Head Office of Czech Advocacy. He took part in drafting the Act on Advocacy and Advocates’ Fees. He was a member of the Board of Directors of the Czech Bar Association (CBA), with the exception of the years 1993–96, when he was a member of its Revision Commission. In 1998 he was appointed to the Government’s Legislative Council. He was also a member of the Ministry of Justice’s working groups for the new Civil Code under preparation, for both the general part and family law. He is a co-author of Beck Publishers‘ commentary on the Civil Code, and a co-author of Linde Publishers’ Law Dictionary. On 17 December 2003 President Václav Klaus appointed him a Justice of the Constitutional Court.
