Prof. JUDr. Jan Musil, CSc. (*1941) graduated from the Charles Law Faculty in 1963. He then worked as an articling lawyer and prosecutor in the Prosecutor‘s Office in Šumperk, focusing on juvenile crime. From 1967 he taught at the Charles Law Faculty, where he was named docent in 1985 and professor in 1993, at which time he became the Chair of the Department of Criminal Law. In 1992–98 he was the Rector of the Czech Police Academy, and Deputy Rector until 2003. He also taught at the Western Bohemian Law Faculty. He has been on many fellowships and lecture visits abroad. He is a regular guest of the Max Planck Institute for Foreign and International Criminal Law in Freiburg im Breisgau. He is a member of the Scientific Council of the Charles Law Faculty, the Masaryk Law Faculty, and the Police Academy. He sits on the Advisory Board, Institute for Criminology and Social Prevention. He is also a member of the Society for Criminology and of the National Group of the International Criminal Law Society. He is an honorary member of the White Circle of Safety, a civic association that helps victims of crime.

On 27 November 2003 President Václav Klaus appointed him a Justice of the Constitutional Court. On January 20, 2014 President Miloš Zeman appointed him for the second term in office as the Justice of the Constitutional Court. He resigned due to health reasons on 31 January 2019.
