The Constitutional Court is once again complete. Lucie Dolanská Bányaiová and Zdeněk Kühn have joined the bench

Article 84 of the Constitution of the Czech Republic provides that the Constitutional Court consist of 15 Justices. However, one seat has been vacant for most of the time since the end of 2021. With the conclusion of Justice Radovan Suchánek's term of office in November this year, the number of Justices even dropped to thirteen. It is therefore very good news that today the President of the Republic appointed two new Justices of the Constitutional Court.

Lucie Dolanská Bányaiová has been an attorney at law for a long time specializing in private law. In addition to her work as an attorney, she is also an academic, lecturing on private international law and international commercial law. She is also a co-author of commentaries on civil law. Since 2021, she has been a member of the Board of Directors of the Czech Bar Association.

Zdeněk Kühn is a renowned academic and professor of legal theory. From 2004, he worked as an assistant to the Justice of the Constitutional Court and participated in the activities of the Government Legislative Council. In 2008, he became a judge and was assigned to the Supreme Administrative Court. The year before, he was appointed an ad hoc judge of the European Court of Human Rights.

With their expertise and legal experience, the new Justices will well complement the existing range of perspectives with which the Constitutional Court assesses the cases it hears. I would like to wish them that the next ten years of their service to constitutional judiciary will be marked by many professional successes and wise decisions.
